3.2 Intraspecific Studies
Geographic patterns of:lt are shown for two species (Fig. 3), the Song Sparrow and
the Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus). The latter is consistent with the
predicted pattern whereas that for the Song Sparrow is not (Fig. 1). The mismatch
distribution (Fig. 4) has the shape of a growing population although the observed
distribution differed significantly from expected (P < 0.01). The plot (Fig. 5) of
number of lineages vs time is consistent with that expected for a growing population. The NJ tree (see Fry and Zink 1998, their Fig. 2) shows relatively little structure.
