Ulvaceae and the canopy-forming, photophilous
species; (2) an increase in turf-forming species;
(3) the upward migration of deep water species.
The observed changes might be related mainly to
the reduction in light penetration and to
increased sedimentation rather than to eutrophication and other human activities, but these
hypotheses need to be tested by means of appropriate experiments.
Acknowledgements. We are indebted to M. Cormad and G.
