at the bottom they reached values of about 13.7
°C and 38.5 psu (Fig. 2b), very similar to Ionian
water parameters, according to the described
sinking waters phenomenon. There were not so
many differences among physico-chemical and
biological features at each station as in the
Ionian Sea.
Fluorescence values showed a well defmed
maximum (about 1.5 mg/m 3 chla) between 50 m
and 80 m in Ionian Sea while in Tyrrhenian Sea it
reached 0.25 mg/m3 chla between 80 and 120 m.
