Conclusions
and Perspectives
From a scientifi c standpoint, TEAMS will contribute to reconstructing the regional fi sheries industries by determining revealing the mechanisms of
ecosystem recovery based on long-term surveys
and research. The biological, chemical, and
physical data, which have been archived to build
databases available to the public, are expected to
provide signifi cant information for facilitating the
reconstruction of the coastal environment and fi sheries in the Tohoku area and for predicting when
the next disaster will occur in the world.
Further investigations (now in progress) are
required to determine the effects of massive tsunamis on marine ecosystems and life in general.
Acknowledgments The author is grateful to Profs.
A. Kijima and M. Hara at Tohoku Univ., Japan, for the
valuable suggestion and offer of materials to prepare this
paper and the presentation at the 15th CFJO. The author
also wishes to thank Dr. H.-J. Ceccaldi, Prof. Emeritus, at
Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, France, for giving an
opportunity to present our research topics during the 15th
CFJO symposium. The author would like to dedicate this
commentary to the late Dr. T. Nomura, Prof. Emeritus, at
Tohoku Univ., Japan, who was decorated with offi cier of
the Palmes Academiques in 2013 and introduced the
author to Prof. H.-J. Ceccaldi. TEAMS project has been
supported by MEXT, Japan.
