odr-3
The response of all G protein mutants in various behavioral assays is given. Assays that showed altered
behavior are in bold. All assays were performed twice, unless otherwise indicated (n). Some odr-3
phenotypes have been reported previously (Roayaie et al. 1998).
wt, wild type behavior; mut, reduced chemotaxis to the attractant, or reduced avoidance; nd, not determined.
*Mutants that showed significantly altered behavior (P.05).
aChemotaxis to water soluble compounds. Ac-CI, animals were presented with a choice between NaAc and
NaCI. Increased preference for Ac (Ac), or Cl (Cl) is indicated. Chemotaxis to NaCI, NaAc, and glucose.
b Aversion of water soluble compounds, 150 mM or 15 mM CUS04; 4 M fructose (osm); 4% SDS, 0.4%
SDS.
CChemotaxis to volatile attractants, trimethylthiazole (tmt), diacetyl (dia), pyrazine (pyr) (10 mg/ml).
isoamyl alcohol (iaa), benzaldehyde (ben), pentanedione (pen). All odorants were diluted 100 times in
ethanol, unless otherwise indicated.
d Avoidance of volatile compounds, non, 2-nonanone; oct, l-octanol, undiluted. Assays performed using 10
times diluted odorants confirmed the results.
e gpa-I XS and gpa-Il XS animals showed reduced potency (55% and 40% potency. respectively), 80-100%
of the males of all other strains were potent.
f Animals were incubated with the fluorescent dye DiO, filling of amphid and phasmid neurons was tested.
gpa-10XS animals showed stronger staining, gpa-3QL animals showed no filling.
