Discussion
WALTER:
In the interconversion of F-6-P and FDP phosphofructokinase catalyzes the
reaction in one direction and FDP phosphatase catalyzes the reverse reaction.
Have you any idea, perhaps from tracer experiments, whether the source of
F-6-P buildup is G-6-P or FDP?
ARESE:
The presence of FDP phosphatase in skeletal muscle is well established
(M. SALAS, E. VINUELA, ]. SALAS and A. SOLS, Biochem. Biophys. Res. Comm.
17, 150 (1964)). However, till now, no evidence of this enzyme in heart tissue
of several species has been found (H. A. KREBS and M. WOODFORD, Biochem.
]. 94 436 (1965)). We think therefore that the observed effects are caused by
the interaction of ions or of regulative metabolites with phosphofructokinase.
