Energy Flow in Benthic Assemblages: Portugal and North Sea Tidal Basins

The secondary production has been attributed to feeding types by splitting
the production of an organism into its feeding modes when adequate. Hence
the degree of omnivory can be indicated as production of a certain feeding
type due to organisms in common with the production of another feeding
type (Table 1104). For the Ria Formosa, there appears to be no consistent line.
Table 11.4. Degree of omnivory expressed as percentage share of production
realized by the same species, but by another feeding mode. B Browser (grazer);
S suspension feeder; D benthic detritus feeder; H herbivore on macrophytes;
C carnivore; a share of more than 50 % has been marked in bold
