appendages on their tops. Cephalic pores not contoured. Circum-oral pores large, size similar
to nostril, oval, not submerged. Symphysial mandibular pores half as large as others, distance
between them (pm I-pm 1) half of distance pm l-pm2 (Figure 2). Postorbital pore absent.
Suprabranchial pores two, small.

Body quite deep, compressed, not elongate. Maximum body depth (above dorsal fin origin) 4
in SL. Trunk long; preanal length 2.3 in SL. Dorsal and anal fins low, at half of fin length
equal to about 2/3 of body depth at this point. Skeleton from radiograph. Vertebrae 60:
abdominal 10, caudal 50, distinctly recognizable. Vertebral column with a slight curve only
along its anterior part. Interneural of the first dorsal ray between 3rd and 4th vertebrae; one free
interneural (without ray) anteriorly. Pleural ribs in two pairs, thin and long but not curved.
Hypural plate single, with a posterior slit. Caudal fin rays missing.
Pectoral fin situated low on the body, uppermost ray almost on level of end of mouth cleft.
Fin deeply notched; upper lobe consisting of 23 rays (including the shortest ray at the notch; its
