The particle concentrations in sea ice varied by more than one order of magnitude (Table 3,
Figure 6). The median value of particle concentration in sea ice was 148.9 mglL. this value is
significantly higher (U = 3.5; m=11, n=10; p < 0.00) than that for the underlying water
column.
Discussion
Particle entrainment into sea ice
Suspension freezing is a widely accepted particle incorporation process into sea ice. This
process requires strong winds, intense turbulence in open water of a shallow sea, and extreme
