ReRection shooting (seismic). (After Hersey 1963)
Refraction. (After Bascon 1959)
refraction shooting (seismic) a seismic technique, based on the travel times of
waves that are deflected upon entering a layer with a higher seismic velocity, move parallel to the layer contact and re-emerge at the surface again. The
travel times are measured as a function of distance between shotpoint and
receiver. At sea, explosives are set off at regular intervals from a moving ship
and the echoes are recorded by a hydrophone on a buoy (Sonobuoy) or a sta-
