The Forum on MERSLWeb allowed to achieve some important results:
~ an overall consensus from all the participants was reached on the MERSLWeb
concept, and the Forum boosted the starting-up of its implementation, laying the
foundations for the establishment of an operational Mediterranean network. A
statement of interest witnessing this consensus was agreed upon by the
participants.
~ the discussion with Regional and International Organizations was fundamental,
since it highlighted that MERSLWeb in its first steps should aim at very targeted
and not too ambitious objectives, and in particular that the network should be
initially focused on setting up remotely sensed meta-data information at national
and regional level, according to international standards and user friendlyinterface;
~
most of the participants underlined the importance to progress in the dialogue
among national and regional participants, and that to this purpose a steering
committee composed of their representatives should be established, in order to
drive MERSLWeb towards a concrete support to decision and policy making in
the field ofthe environment and sustainable development in the Mediterranean;
~
the needs of seeking financial and operational support for implementing
MERSI.Web.
