Investigations on Global Climate Change in
Bulgaria
I. Raev
In the context of "Global Change" studies investigations have been started to study
specific climate effects at climate gradients in Bulgaria. Two stations have been set
up on both sides of the mountain watershed of Rila-Rhodope mountains , South East
Europe (Fig. I ). This is where the dividing line between the influence of the two
climatic zones in Bulgaria passes (M - Mediterranean climate, C - continental
climate).
The Vassil Serafimov Station on the southern slopes of Rila Mountains is a
representative ecosystem of Pinus sylvestris at an altitude of 1500 m a.s.!., a southern
slope, and contains an experimental watershed basin from 1200 to 2400 m a.s.l..
Studies have been initiated in 1961. There is a marked impact of the Mediterranean
Rei ief map of Bulgaria.
