amount of rainfall (238mm). On the other hand, Rhodes is located in the southeast
Aegean Sea and is the wettest station in the south Aegean (mean annual rainfall is
787mm), while precipitation received during the dry period is much lower (59mm).
As expected, the simulated rainy days are more consistent with the observed
values than the precipitation totals for all the Greek stations and the two individual
ones. In some cases, such as December for all stations, August for Ioannina and
February for Rhodes, the agreement is exact. The X 2 statistic was used to test the
adequacy of the agreement between the observed and simulated rain days, with an
acceptance level of p(X 2 X);c· 0.05. According to the results of this test, for the
majority of the months (all stations, Ioannina and Rhodes) the agreement is
acceptable except for June and October (all stations), April, June, July and November
(Ioannina) and February, May, June, October and December (Rhodes).
