Chapter five: Feeding mechanisms
are discovered, new phylogenetic tools will allow researchers to investigate the evolution
of feeding and begin to elucidate functional transitions from land to sea and the evolution of particular feeding modes and foraging behavior. In total, the impact of such new
integration will advance our understanding of mammalian evolution and the functional
pathways that aquatic mammals took during their transition to land as well as the ecological patterns of vertebrate natural history.
