Annex A: Terms and definitions ofthe ISO 19100 standards
239
specific test of an implementation to meet particular requirements (lS037 2000)
NOTE
Instantiation of an abstract test case with values
executable test suite (ETS)
set of executable test cases (lS0372000)
exterior
difference between the universe and the closure (lS039 2003)
NOTE
The concept of exterior is applicable to both topological and geometric complexes.
extern al function
function not part ofthe application schema (lS049 2002)
NOTE
The electronic map in a car navigation system has to be displayed
so that the up-direction ofthe map is always in the direction the car is moving. To be
able to specify the rotation of the map, the current position of the car must be retrieved continuously from an external position device using an external function.
face
2-dimensional topological primitive (IS039 2003)
NOTE
The geometric realization of a face is a surface. The boundary of a
face is the set of directed edges within the same topological complex that are associated to the face via the boundary relations. These can be organized as rings.
faH verdict
test verdict reporting ofnon-conformance (lS037 2000)
NOTE
Non-conformance may be with respect to either the test purpose or
at least one ofthe conformance requirements ofthe relevant standard(s).
falsification test
test to find errors in the implementation (lS037 2000)
NOTE
If errors are found, one can correctly deduce the implementation
does not conform to the standard; however, the absence of errors does not necessarily imply the converse. Falsification test can only demonstrate non-conformance.
Compare with verification test. Due to technical and economical problems, in most
cases, falsification test is adopted as a test method for conformance testing.
feature
abstraction ofreal world phenomena (lS034 2002)
NOTE I
A feature may occur as a type or an instance. Feature type or feature instance shall be used when only one is meant.
NOTE 2
In a feature catalogue, the basic level of classification is the feature
type
EXAMPLE
The phenomenon "Eiffel Tower" may be classified with other
similar phenomena into a feature type "tower".
