IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS)
The GRSS is an international society that brings together experts on remotely
sensed data in many fields of application. It is the intention of the society to create a
forum within which scientists and engineers involved in a wide range of Earth remote sensing technologies (airborne, ship based, spaceborne, active, passive, optical,
microwave, .. . ) can develop techniques to meet the requirements of a diverse set of
data users. The annual International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium
(IGARSS) has become one of the most well-attended meetings for the exchange of
the ideas and information in Earth remote sensing.

The members of GRSS come from both engineering and scientific
disciplines. Those with engineering backgrounds are often farniliar
with geophysics, geology, hydrology, oceanography, and/or meteorology. The fusion of geoscientific and engineering disciplines in
projects of global scope give the GRSS a unique interdisciplinary
character.
The Society was first known as the Geoscience Electronics Group,
formed in 1962.
Selected from its International membership, presently USA
Since 1981 it has sponsored the annual International Geoscience
and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) series.
