3.5 Implementation standards
3.5.1 Data product specification (ISO 19131)
The ISO 19131 (Data product specification) promotes the application of the ISO
19100 standards family for practical uses. A data product is a dataset containing data
with a spatial relation to the earth. A data product specification is a formal document
that defines the details of the data product for production, end-user, and other purposes. It is a precise technical description of the data product in terms of the requirements that it will or may fulfill. Therefore, purpose of the standard is to provide
practical help in the creation of such specifications.
A good guideline for the content of a data product specification is listed in a normative annex to ISO standard "Data product specification". It helps to take all details
into account without necessarily thoroughly knowing the structure of the whole ISO
19100 family.
3.5.2 Simple features (ISO 19125)
The ISO 19125 consists oftwo parts named ISO 19125-1 (Simple feature accessPart 1: Common architecture) and ISO 19125-2 (Simple feature access - Part 2: SQL
option). The ISO 19125 is implementation-oriented.
Both parts deal with simple features. They are geometries restricted to two dimensions with linear interpolation between the vertices and may have spatial and nonspatia1 attributes. The simple features model consists of points, curves, and surfaces.
The elements may be combined to geometry collections that include multi point,
multi curve, and multi surface.
Part 1 of the standard defines the simple feature model. It is an abstract model in
the sense that is independent from a specific computer platform. Part 2 defines a database access of simple features through an SQL-interface. The Open GIS Consortium has proposed the basic documents ofthe ISO 19125.
The more comprehensive standards such as the ISO 19107 (Spatia1 schema) and
the ISO 19123 (Schema for coverage geometry and functions) have used some elements ofISO 19125-1.
The chapter 4, section 4 "Simple features" contains a detailed description of ISO
19125-1.
3.5.3 Web Map server interface (ISO 19128)
There are currently many mediums for communication being used but the Internet
admittedly is the most important. If we use the Internet, we rarely think of the software running in the background. We take it as iso Our interface to the net is a
