The perspective adopted in this study is for a sea to land orientation.
Research divisions are based on the topographic ‘features’ of the coastal environment
found in the Wash (Table 1) and at the local scale (e.g. an embayment), direct
consideration is possible of the relative height levels between the embanked land and
the near-shore submarine channels. This permits the adoption of strategies concerning
flood defence based on the current physical state of the near-shore and shore area.
Shoreline Management Plans
The analysis of both the tidal and the subtidal environment is a central requirement for
the production of non statutory Shoreline Management Plans (Ministry of Agriculture
Fisheries and Food, 1995).
