Distribution: Asia: Java, Indonesia

Habitat: Freshwater, brackish water;
lowland streams, swamps, ponds,
ditches, rice paddies, and pools left in
low spots.
Description: Body of this species is
compressed posteriorly. Upper jaw is
a little projecting. Spine of pectoral
fins is rough on its outer edge and serrated on its inner edge. Occipital process is more or less triangular, and its
length is about two times its width.
The distance between the dorsal and
occipital processes is 4–5.5 times the
distance from the tip of the snout
to the end of the occipital process.
Genital papilla in males is elongated
and pointed. This species grows to
a maximum size of 47 cm and 1.2 kg
(Luna, 1988f).
