Rita rita Hamilton 1822
Order: Siluriformes
Family: Bagridae
Common name: Rita.
Distribution: Asia: Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and
Myanmar.
Habitat: Freshwater, brackish water;
rivers and estuaries; muddy to clear
water; backwater of quiet eddies.
Description: This species is distinguished by its small eyes and purplish
gray color. A single pair of mandibular barbels is present. Top of head is
covered by thin skin, and vomerine
teeth are seen in two broad ovoid
patches. Males have an elongate genital papilla in front of the anal fin.
It reaches a maximum size of 150 cm
(PlanetCatfish).
