through it: one running from the
mouth to the origin of the dorsal fin,
and the other running from the throat
to the eye. Fins are grayish with brown
markings. It grows to a maximum size

Habitat: Marine and brackish water;

Description: Interpelvic process of
this species is small and bifid. Body
is covered with small scales. Lateral
line is gradually curving down toward
caudal peduncle. Swim bladder is
absent. Large individuals may have
thin vertical bars. Coloration of body
is bluish green on the back, fading
to silvery on the sides marked with
about three rows of vertically elongate
orange spots. Anterior half of first dorsal fin and margin of posterior half of
first fin are black. This species grows
to a maximum size of 100 cm and 6 kg
(Kesner-Reyes, 2002c).
