Family: Channidae
Common name: Striped snakehead.
Distribution: From Sri Lanka to Indonesia; Philippines, China, and Cambodia (FAO, 2014c).
Habitat: Survives dry season by burrowing into bottom mud of lakes,
canals, and swamps.
Description: Body is elongated. Head
is broad and flattened. Top and sides of
head are covered with scales. Mouth is
large. Only small teeth are seen on palate. Eyes are in anterior part of head.
Lateral line has 42–57 scales. Dorsal fin
is longer than anal fin. Caudal fin is
rounded. Oblique bars are seen on body.
This species grows to a maximum size
of 100 cm and 7 kg (FAO, 2014c).
