Habitat: Rivers, canals, beels.
Description: This species has an elongated body that is laterally compressed.
Eyes are situated at the anterior part of
head. Abdominal profile cuts behind the
base of the pectoral. Lower jaw extends
up to the front margin of the orbit. Dorsal
fin begins opposite the origin of the anal
fin. Pectoral fin does not reach pelvic fin.
Caudal fin is deeply forked. Lateral line
is complete and curved gently downward. Body is silvery with a bright and
silvery lateral band. It grows to a maximum length of 12 cm (Bashar, 2013).

Description: Body of this species is elongated and strongly compressed. Mouth is
oblique. Lower jaw has a well-developed
symphysial knob. Scales are very small.
There is a good space between anal and
caudal fins. Lateral line is concave. Body
is darkish dorsally and rest of the body
is silvery. It grows to a maximum size of
17.5 cm (Bashar, 2010b).
