Common name: Silver carp.
Distribution: Asia: Native to most major
Pacific drainages of East Asia; China and
Eastern Siberia. Introduced around the
world for aquaculture (Luna, 1988k).
Habitat: Rivers with marked waterlevel fluctuations.
Description: In this species, barbels are
absent. Keels extend from isthmus to
anus. The edge of the last simple dorsal
ray is not serrated. A sharp scaleless keel
is seen from the pectoral region to the
anal origin. There are 650–820 long, slender gill rakers, and head length is 24–29%
of standard length (SL). Body is plain
pale, greenish gray above and whitish
below. This species reaches a maximum
size of 105 cm and 50 kg (Luna, 1988).
