Description: Shells of this species have
a shell length of 26.5–43.5 mm. Shell is
globose, yellowish brown with darker
spiral bands. Its spire is much less than
the height of the aperture. The presence of a gill, accessory lung sac inside
the mantle cavity, and anterior kidney
chamber is the characteristic feature
that helps this species to adapt to an

Description: Shell of this species has
five or six whorls. Most obvious characteristic features of the shell are
the  square shoulders  (flat at the top
of the whorls) and almost  90° sutures.
Shell opening (aperture) is large and
oval and the umbilicus is large and
deep. Size of the shell varies from 40 to
50 mm wide and 45 to 65 mm high.
Spire is high and sharp. They are the
most colorful of all apple snail species,
ranging in color from the wild brown,
gold, albino, chestnut to blue, jade, and
even shades of purple and burgundy,
with or without stripes. Operculum is
moderately thick and corneous. The
color of the operculum varies from
light to dark brown. The operculum
can be retracted in the aperture (shell
