Family: Gecarcinucidae
Common name: Freshwater crab.
Distribution: India (Tamil Nadu) (Cumberlidge, 2008d).
Habitat: Shallow (<30 cm deep), steep,
rocky streams in shaded areas.
Description: Carapace of this species
is broader than long. Dorsal surface
is slightly convex in the frontal view,
flat posteriorly, and smooth. Epistomal
median lobe is without a median
tooth. Post-orbital cristae are confluent with epigastric cristae. External
orbital angle is broadly triangular, with
long outer margin that is three to five
times the length of the inner margin.
Epibranchial tooth is small and blunt.
Third maxilliped exopod has a long
flagellum. Male abdomen is T-shaped
to narrowly triangular in large males
(Bahir and Yeo, 2007).
