Air Pollution and Turbulence: Modeling and Applications
before sunrise. It should also be emphasized that this height is 1/3 of the CBL at
forest and 1/5 for the pasture. The layer above is the RL.
2.5 CONCLUDING REMARKS
This chapter reviewed some of the concepts involved in the ABL as well as the
measurements and equipments used. For readers interested in this subject, the books
by Stull (1988), Garrat (1992), and Arya (2001) present the main concepts of the
ABL and are very well recommended. For the issue of measurements, the books by
Kaimal and Finnigan (1994) and Lee et al. (2004) cover the most important topics,
including the most actual software and procedures for the raw data collected by the
eddy covariance technique. The recently published book by Foken (2008) covers
both the concepts and the actual equipments and measurements. It is an updated
and state-of-the-art book about micrometeorology and boundary layer meteorology.
Finally, some history, philosophy, and sociology of the boundary layer modeling
can be found in Wyngaard (1998). Within the scope of this book, the winds play an
important role. So the books from Plate (1982) and Arya (1999) that describe the
subject of wind engineering and air pollution meteorology from the perspective of
the engineering community are also recommended.
