sewers respectively near Traralgon and Werribee, in Victoria. At Traralgon, the main
outfall sewer of the Latrobe Valley carries wastes which include discharges from a large
kraft pulp mill, and from other industries including the manufacture of dairy products.
Samples of air from a drop chamber showed H 2 S and mercaptan levels of hundreds of
parts per million with aldehydes and amines at ppm levels, that is in higher relative
proportions than is normal for ordinary sewers. The C0 2 contents were around 3%.
