The present investigation deals with the electrophoretic analyses of phospha—
tases
and esterases
in Cirrhinus mrigala treated with the texite effluent
for a period of 4 days at sub—lethal concentration. The results revealed that
phOSphatases and esterases exist in multiple molecular forms. The tissues of
fish treated with textile effluent exhibited decreases number of isozyme fra—
ctions. The results suggest that the effluent cause histopathological and
enzymatic changes.

APPLICATION OF AN ANTISTRESS PREPARATION IN INTENSIVE CARP CULTURE.À. SIWICKI

A series of experiments was carried out using 1.200 carps with 50—300 g of
body weight (bw) to define the effectiveness of ”Relanimal" (1% suspencion of
Diazepam) in such "stress" conditions as handling, sorting and transportation.
Doses
from 0.05 to 0.1 ml of the preparation/1 Kh bw were added to the feeds
for
3—7 days before stress was given; hematological, biochemical and immuno—
logical analyses were made at several time intervals. The preparation doses
were
bases
on
LD50 that had been experimentally established. The same doses
of
"Relanimal” were applied in the feed of one and two—year-old carp in 11
ponds (total area 42 ha) from May to September for three consecutive years.
The fish were sampled every 14 days to determine the blood parameters. The
usefulness of
the preparation for carp transportation was tested by dosing
from 0.5 to
1.0 ml of the agent/1 litér of water. The doses were based on the
establishment of LC50. It was proved that Ht, Hb, glucose, Cl, Mg, leukocyte
humber, activity of GOT, CPT, AP and lysozym, total protein, globulin complex
and neutrophil phagocytic ability were more stable in fish treated with the
preparation. A better survival and body growth (by about 10%) were noticed
in ponds when the preparation was added to the feed.
FUNGAL PARASITES OF INDIAN MAJOR CARPS AND OTHER RELATED FISHES.

The paper aims to present the results of investigations carried out by the
author on fungal infection of some important fresh—water fishes of India
including Indian major carps, and other related species. Fifteen species be—
longing to four genera of saprolegnioceous fungi : Achlya, Aphanomyces,
Dictyuchus and Saprolegnia were isolated from
at
government
fish—farms and private fish—ponds. The pathogenicity of these
fungi have been tested by conducting artificial inoculation experiments under
controlled laboratory conditions (proving Koch's postulates). These investi—
gat10ns have established that Saprolegnia parasitica Coker (= S. diclipa
Humphrey)
is not the only fungus responsible for causing epizootics in fish—
populations
in Indian waters, instead several other fungi are equally involved
in fish—fungus complex in Indian fresh—water fisheries. Further, an interest—
1ng case
of dermatomycoses (referred as "Aphanomycoses") was observed in
EËEËËÈEËÊ_EÊÉËËÈË where the fungus was found to be host —specific— & feature
-not
known for the saprolegniaceous fungi.
