In order to show more clearly the sector's tendency, a curve, representing”'
production and marketing trends, was plotted (fig. 1). The data available

the farmers has, furtherm0re, made it possible to establish, for 1980,
reas
used, the unitary productions and the breeding systems used (monoculture
_
or
polycu1ture); in the latter case the information included the species bred
with
goldfish in hemp and other kinds of ponds (tab. 2).
In order to verify the reliability of the farmers' and Wholesalers' da—
ta, the two sources were compared on the basis of totals which we analysed

cian carp production and marketing in the period under consideration were obtained, are seen to be remarkab1y reliable. particularly data referring to
1980 and 1984, in which there is,in practice, a parallel trend between pro—
duction and marketing. The difference of aboüt a million fish in 1960 and 1965,
which increased to about three million in 1970 can be attributed to the note—
worthy numbers of undersized fish which were unsold, partly because of the
large production typical of those periods.

The greater sale compared to production which characterizes 1975 is due to
the lack of information on direct production by wholesalers, many Of Wh0m are
also farmers. This information was not covered by the survey since lt was th9
ught that such production played only a secondary role and would therefore
not have influenced the final results. The.data for 1980 and 1984:

the direct production by wholesalers show the OPPOSite to be true, Since, as
already mentioned, production and sales ran parallel
in thêt year.
