5.5.2 DNA Fingerprinting
Band sharing index (BSI) for organismal DNA fragments: In the DNA fingerprint
search method (DNA-FP), each band (allele) corresponds to a genetic pattern of
codominance, in which both alleles in a pair are fully expressed in heteromorphic
individuals. Because alleles at multiple gene loci are expressed within the same
mobile phase, they cannot determine the gene type for each gene locus (Fig. 5.5). It
DNA fragment sizes are characteristically large. This marker enables proof of clonality
and distinguishing of clones
