enzymes that recognize four or six specific base sequences and only truncate there
(Fig. 4.11). Restriction enzymes include those that clip the two DNA strands such
that the truncation surfaces are parallel, and those that cut them so that they
intersect; the latter results in a “sticky” surface at the time of DNA adhesion.
Restriction enzymes remove target genes or portions of genes from the genome
(Surmacz et al. 1995; Ishikawa 1985).
