15 System Testing and Validation Technology of Lunar Lander
15.5 Landing Impact Tests
15.5.1 Test Objective
The objective of landing impact test was to examine the impact resistance of main
structure of the lunar lander under the typical landing conditions during the soft
landing. At the same time, the impact response of key parts of the lunar lander
and the connection of key instrument could be determined, which could provide
references for formulation of instrument environment conditions.
15.5.2 Test Constraints and Methodology
In order to simulate real soft landing impact of the lunar lander and acquire the
response of the lunar lander, there were constraints to be considered when the test
system was designed as follows.
(1) The mass property, load transfer characteristics and force transfer path of the
lunar lander should be same as actual landing process.
(2) The cushion characteristics of the landing gear and the impact load environment
of the lunar lander during soft landing should be the same as actual.
(3) The landing surface should be able to simulate the terrain features of lunar
surface and mechanical property of lunar soil.
(4) The velocity and attitude when touched landing surface should be same as
actual landing on lunar surface.
(5) The lunar lander should be free without any additional constraints during
landing.
When the test case was designed, simulation analysis of all conditions should be
conducted. Simulation conditions should cover all landing modes, initial parameters
and landing surface characteristics. The initial parameters should cover the mass
property of the lunar lander, velocity, and attitude. The landing surface characteristics
should cover the friction characteristics, load bearing characteristics, and slope of
the landing surface. The most severe typical landing conditions should be chosen to
be tested.
15.5.3 Design of Test System
In the landing impact test, it should be simulated including the lunar lander energy,
motion DOF, lunar terrain and mechanical property of lunar soil during soft landing.
The test system was composed of the lunar rover test model subsystem, lift and
