Chapter 15
System Testing and Validation
Technology of Lunar Lander
15.1 Introduction
In term of environmental adaptability and environment test, there were so many similarities between the lunar lander and Earth orbit spacecraft. However, there were still
some differences, especially in the particularity of soft landing environment and lunar
surface environment, which made it necessary to solve a series of specific technical
difficulties in ground environment simulation tests, build and improve the relevant
environmental test facilities, and conduct adequate tests to identify the potential
problems and deficiencies of the design or manufacture quality.
According to operation environment during the whole mission life cycle of the
lunar lander, under the premise of synthetically consideration of benefit, schedule
and feasibility, it was necessary to verify the design of the product, the correctness
and reasonableness of the technological process on the ground as far as possible,
which would identify the defects in manufacturing quality, material and process of
the product, eliminate the early failure, and improve the operational reliability during
working life.
In this chapter, the special system-level ground validation tests during development of the lunar lander are introduced, including test purpose, methodology, test
system design and practical application. The conventional system-level ground validation tests (such as sound test, sinusoidal vibration test, satellite/launch vehicle
dock and separation test, thermal test, integrated electrical performance test and
EMC test) will not be discussed, which can be referred to the related articles of
spacecraft environmental test.
