14.6.4 Test of Communication Function Between the Lunar
Lander and the Lunar Rover
In order to implement telecommunication between the lunar lander and the lunar
rover, there were UHF receiver, transmitter and antenna, the telemetry and scientific payload data of the lunar rover could be transmitted through the UHF channel
between the lunar lander and the lunar rover, and then sent back to the ground by
data transmission channel of the lunar lander after it was multiplexed.
For example, the communication function tests between the lunar lander and the
lunar rover in integrated test phase were classified into 4 categories.
(1) Performance test of the receiver and transmitter. The test mode was wired test
with the lunar lander, where the UHF receiver and transmitter of the lunar
lander were connected with test equipment the TT&C and Telecommunication
subsystem by ground cable. The technical specifications such as demodulation
threshold of the receiver and the output power of the transmitter, should be
tested.
(2) Data sending and reception function test of UHF band. The test mode was
wired test with the lunar lander, where the simulated data from ground test
equipment was sent to verify the function correctness of UHF receiver, OBDH
data multiplexing and forwarding. At the same time, the correctness of the data
format would be tested by reception data of ground test equipment from the
UHF transmitter.
(3) Wired communication function test at UHF band between the lunar lander
and the lunar rover. The test mode was wired joint test with the complex of
the lunar rover and the lunar rover, where the UHF transmitter of one probe
was connected with the UHF receiver of another probe by ground cable and
attenuator. The data of the lunar rover would be forwarded to ground test
equipment through data transmission channel of the lunar lander after it was
sent to the lunar rover through UHF channel between probes. Meanwhile, the
