11.6.3 Performance Testing of Lunar Surface Sensing Probe
Multiple lunar sensing switches were installed on the bottom surface of the footpad
to trigger touchdown signal when the lunar lander was landed on lunar surface.
As any of these parallel switches was triggered, the touchdown signal is output.
To ensure a reliable trigger, adequate ground test is necessary. Performance test of
lunar surface sensing probe included manual triggering test, static triggering test and
landing impact triggering test.
The multimeter was used in manual triggering test. The multimeter was switched
to continuity test of ohm block, and two sticks were connected with output ends
of switch. The lunar surface sensing switches were pressed with fingers. A buzz
while pressing indicates that the signal was normal. For example, for 3 switches on
one footpad, an adequate test was generally conducted as the sequence shown in
Table 11.1.
The static triggering test could be conducted together with static test of the footpad.
The specific monitoring device for lunar surface sensing probe was connected with
output ends of the footpad to monitor and record triggering signal during the static
test process, as shown in Fig. 11.24.
The landing impact triggering test was generally conducted with cushion performance test of single set of landing gear mechanism and combined cushion performance test for the lunar lander. In the process of cushion performance test, the specific
monitoring device was applied for data recording.
