(5) Fundamental frequency. The transfer mechanism should satisfy certain fundamental frequency requirements in hold down status.
(6) Others. The transfer mechanism should provide the position information during
transfer of the lunar rover, etc.
All above requirements are listed in Table 4.5.
2. Task Analysis
For the Chang’E-3 lunar lander, landing legs were designed for soft-landing. the
lunar rover was mounted on the top of the lander. The transfer mechanism for the
lunar rover was on the lateral side of the lander and should satisfy requirements of the
launch vehicle’s fairing envelope. During launch, the transfer mechanism should be
unfolded and held down. After landing, it should be deployed and transfer the lunar
rover to lunar surface. The task of the transfer mechanism is analyzed as follows:
(1) Launch phase: The transfer mechanism was held down on the lateral side of
the lander to withstand the launch load.
(2) In-orbit flight phase: The transfer mechanism should withstand space environment including temperature alternation, radiation and vacuum.
(3) Landing phase: The transfer mechanism should withstand the landing impact
load.
(4) Operation phase on lunar surface: The transfer mechanism was released and
deployed, while the lunar gravity should be overcome and the movement interference with the landing gears should be avoided. During the process of transfer
and release of the lunar rover by the transfer mechanism, the transfer mechanism should withstand the lunar gravity load of the lunar rover, transfer the
lunar rover with high altitude and large displacement, avoid the movement
interference with the landing gears and maintain the stability of the lunar rover.
During operation phase on lunar surface, the transfer mechanism should adapt
to complicate environment including high-low temperature, lunar dust and
terrain.
From above analysis, it could be seen that there were two key points in design of the
transfer mechanism for the Chang’E-3 lunar rover as follows:
(1) The transfer mechanism should be held down and deployed. Due to the
constraints of the size of structure, the transfer mechanism should be able
to be held and deployed, while the impact of lunar gravity should be overcome
and the movement interference with the landing gears should be avoided during
deployed.
(2) the lunar rover should be transferred with high altitude and large displacement.
The transfer mechanism should be designed to transfer the lunar rover from the
top of the lunar lander to lunar surface (maximum height of 2.2 m) and avoid
movement interference with the landing legs, as well as maintain the stability
of the lunar rover during transfer and adapt to lunar terrain.
(3) Configuration, composition and operation mode of transfer mechanism
