He served as state coordinator of the Italian international MAXIMA experiments on the cosmic background radiation and as co-investigator of the High
Frequency Instrument on the ESA Planck satellite. His awards include the Balzan
Prize for Observational Astronomy and Astrophysics, and the Premio Feltrinelli
from the Accademia dei Lincei.
John M. Clem
He is Research Associate Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy,
University of Delaware. He worked on the Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna
(ANITA) detector for high energy neutrinos created by collisions between cosmic
rays and the cosmic microwave photons. He has also supported the IceCube and
IceTop Neutrino Observatory. He has conducted measurements on stratospheric
balloons including particle detector development, geomagnetic and heliospheric
magnetic fields, cosmic rays and neutrinos and solar energetic particles.
