Victor Franz Hess

Died December 17, 1964
He was an Austrian-American physicist who shared in the Nobel Prize in physics
for discovering cosmic rays.
His honors include: Lieben Prize (1919), Abbe Memorial Prize, Abbe Medal of
the Carl Zeiss Institute, Jena (1932), Nobel Prize in Physics (1936), Austrian
Decoration for Science and Art (1959). He also has a lunar crater named after him.
Vincent E. Lally

Died September 20, 2005
He received a B.S. in Meteorology from the University of Chicago in 1944. After
service as a meteorologist and radar officer in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific,
he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to get a B.S. in Electrical
Engineering in 1948 and an M.S. in Engineering Administration in 1949. From
1951 to 1958 he worked at the Geophysics Research Directorate of the Air Force
