6.1.4 Alice Springs, Australia
After 751 balloon launches from the Mildura, Victoria balloon launch station, the
site was closed in 1981. Thereafter, Alice Springs, Northern Territory became the
focus for high altitude balloon flights in the southern hemisphere. The launch site
was alongside the Alice Springs airport, where there were two runways located in
the so-called Seven Mile Area.
