Society” at the University of Tokyo has achieved great results. Fig.  26 shows an
overview of this ambitious project.
What is important is to access and utilize the existing body of knowledge and
integrate it toward resolving issues, through the means of knowledge structuring
and building a relationship of trust between external human resources and local
persons and organizations. Drinking together is not enough to build a relationship of
trust and confidence. It is indispensable to present a comprehensive and concrete
project that is convincing to all stakeholders, regardless of their experiences and
interests. Based on the results of 3 years of efforts, great strides have been taken
toward the construction of a general approach for realizing a platinum society in a
given region.
With the activities of the Endowed Chair for “Platinum Society” serving as a
catalyst, the Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan, has launched “The Working
Group on Social Implement Engineering” and is trying to integrate knowledge for
social implementation. The Engineering Academy of Japan has started collaborating with this movement not only the chemical sector, but also in the wider engineering sector to create a platform for cooperation in social implementation.
Where there is a need, we will create new businesses through knowledge structuring and develop them into a large industry, thereby allowing us to become more
affluent. More than the increase in material possessions, it will be for realizing a
better QOL, such as security and comfort.
