All too often, human beings do not know how to use the knowledge they have
acquired.
If we can properly utilize appropriate knowledge from this vast knowledge base,
we can resolve many issues. I call this knowledge structuring. From here on, if we
can develop the methodology of knowledge structuring, take concrete actions, and
link this with an entrepreneurial spirit, it will be possible to generate various
innovations.
These innovations will occur in health, medical care, nursing care, harmony with
nature, tourism, and education if we properly utilize the knowledge we currently
possess, and through this, as a result we will be able to enjoy comfortable services
that deliver high productivity.
How to Expand and Develop More Successful Examples
There are areas far from Tokyo such as Yanedan in Kagoshima Prefecture, Ama-cho
in Shimane Prefecture, Kamikatsu-cho in Tokushima Prefecture, and Niseko-cho in
Hokkaido that have created conditions that closely resemble a platinum society,
despite setbacks of depopulation and stagnant growth. What is common among
these places is the existence of exceptional leaders and excellent collaborators who
skillfully leverage the region’s unique characteristics. This however misleadingly
gives off the impression that exceptional success stories under special circumstances
that can hardly be copied.
However, even in an industrialized society, the horizontal expansion of factories
has been no mean feat. The methodology for that purpose has been researched and
summarized in the form of textbooks, handbooks, and manuals, and has supported
the industrial age.
We must create a way to implement horizontal expansion of a platinum society.
Using good examples as its source of reference, the Platinum Society Network
(PSN) is trying to compile knowledge by summarizing the task of implementing
horizontal expansion into a platinum concept handbook. Although it still cannot be
said that this is sufficient, the PSN considers that it may possibly gain wide acceptance as an instructive methodology.
Challenging the Issue Through Knowledge Structuring
and Action
There has emerged a group of scholars who boldly challenge difficult but important
issues through knowledge structuring and action.
By gathering young researchers from eight universities to carry out a comprehensive project in Tanegashima, the Presidential Endowed Chair for “Platinum
