4.3 Comparative Analysis of Performance Test of AE
Instruments
4.3.1 Testing Status and Standards
In the production process of AE instruments in various countries, the performance
parameters need to be tested and verified, and a quality certificate and test report will
be issued after the results meeting the technical requirements. After the instrument
put into use, the manufacturer or measuring agency conducts a calibration test once a
year to verify whether its performance parameters meet the AE testing requirements.
With the advent of AE instruments and the continuous improvement of product
research and development technology, countries around the world have successively
developed and issued standards for AE instrument performance testing, including
American ASTM standards, European EN standards and Chinese standards, as shown
in Table 4.1.
The United States developed the first AE instrument standard ASTM E750 in
1980, and the latest edition was revised in 2015. This standard is recommended for
use in testing and measuring operating characteristics of acoustic emission electronic
components or units. European CEN developed a series of standards for the characteristics of AE equipment in the early twenty-first century. EN13477.1 describes the
main components that constitute an AE monitoring system and EN13477.2 specifies
methods for routine verification of the performance of an AE equipment comprising
one or more sensing channels. China first developed the AE instrument standard
JB/T 8283 in 1987, and the latest version was revised in 1999. This standard specifies the performance test method of AE instruments. Then the product standard
