Abstract Flying rocks thrown by helicopters during take-off and landing could
cause damage to composite tail beams, The safety evaluation of the damaged tail
beam depends on the results of the fully loaded specimens. Acoustic emission monitoring were be used in the full structural loading test of tail beam, To evaluate the
safety of the damaged tail beam during loading and the extensibility of prefabricated
defects, The results showed that The energy, amplitude, pulse count and duration
of acoustic emission signal all have a good relationship with the loading. Acoustic
emission monitoring can be used to evaluate the safety of tail beam structure.
48.1 Introduction
The Helicopter tail beam refers to the single-rotor form of helicopter with tail rotor
fuselage after the section of the shape becomes significantly elongated, the end is
provided with tail fin, tail rotor and tail sledge. The tail beam adopts honeycomb
sandwich structure, during flight and landing loads, may occurring two failure modes,
global instability and local instability. In the helicopter taking off and landing, the
composite’s tail beam may be damaged by raised flying stones. To avoid potential
defects or damage to reduce the helicopter flight safety life and strength performance,
according to airworthiness requirements, the loading test was carried out in the
Civilian helicopters critical parts equipped the shock, scratch, corrosion and other
defects, to determine the safety of helicopter tail beam. The AE monitoring were
be used to evaluate the safety of tail beam structure, to analyzed and evaluated the
expansion of prefabricated defect of tail beam under load in this paper.
