the coupling effect of directly installing the sensor is very poor. If the steel rod is
ground out of the plane to improve the coupling effect, the strength of the fixed rod
will be reduced. For this reason, we specially designed sheet metal clamps as shown
in Fig. 30.10. The clamp is made of carbon steel plate with thickness of 2–3 mm and
width of about 50 mm.
Polish the fixed rod surface where the clamp is installed, apply some couplant
to the polished area, and then fasten the clamp on the fixed rod. The sensors are
mounted on the clamps. The test method of acoustic conduction effect is similar to
the above method. The test results show that this method also basically meets the
requirements of AE on-line detection of such tanks.
