In most situations, fixed roof of tank should have guard sensors in order to eliminate noise from condensation drops. Because the liquid drops can be formed on the
tank inner roof due to the change of temperature, when it drops to the surface of
liquid, the noise is produced. Figure 29.3 shows the relative position of the guard
sensor and the main sensor in field testing.
29.2.1.3 Height Setting Requirements of Main Sensors
Height setting of main sensors in most companies is 1 m [1, 2, 7]. In the Chinese
standard JB/T 10764-2007 [5], AE sensors should be installed on the outside surface
of the tank wall approximately 0.1–0.5 m from the bottom, we think this height is a bit
low. And the reasonable height is from 0.5 to 1 m in PetroChina Pipeline Company,
which ensures that the overall corrosion of the tank floor is evaluated even in the
presence of sludge and heating coil.
