15.4 Experiment of AE Source Identification in Simulated
Tank Bottom Corrosion Process
15.4.1 Experimental System
The simulated corrosion source device was put into the simulated tank and contacted
with the tank bottom. The sensor was placed in the water medium in the tank. Sensors
were evenly distributed around the tank wall near tank bottom. AE on-line monitoring
of tank bottom corrosion was carried out for 12 h The simulated corrosion source
device is made of a steel pipe with the same material as tank bottom. Its upper thread
is connected with a PVC vent pipe. Steel pipe is filled with corrosion solution, and
the bottom flange is fixed and sealed with a Q235 blind plate. Sensor arrangement
is that six sensors (No. 1–6) are coupled at the same distance around the tank wall
which is 50 mm away from the tank bottom plate; a sensor No. 7 is coupled at the
outer bottom plate of the tank, and a sensor No. 8 is coupled to the outer wall of the
steel pipe which is 50 mm away from the tank bottom; a sensor No. 9 is placed at
the same height from the bottom as No. 8 in water. Sensor 8 and 9 are sealed with
signal line. Experiment device is shown in Fig. 15.8.
