2.2.4 Cost of Transportation
The various raw materials being transported from various sources in variable amounts
are considered to calculate the average cost of transportation of raw materials. Cost
of transportation of waste kraft paper to the recycling plant is also considered.
2.2.5 Cost of Water
Water needs for the industrial purpose are less, and so the impact is less as well.
Water is provided to the industry by MIDC. The cost of water consumed is averaged
based on the monthly rentals for using the service and the cost of the number of units
of water consumed.
2.2.6 Pay Back Period
Payback period of the suggested modes is calculated based on the variable tariffs.
The rental tariffs will, however, remain as long as the connection of electricity from
grid exists in case of alternative energy modes. Payback period in raw material saving
mode will be directly calculated based on the cost of machinery.
2.3 Suggested Modes for Ecological Footprint Reduction
2.3.1 Replacing Existing Grid Electricity Consumption Completely
with Solar PV Grid-Connected Electricity
As the total energy needs of the industry are met by electricity from the grid alone, the
replacement of source of electricity with the interconnected solar PV-based electricity
and the grid electricity through inverter would make the industry self-sufficient for
its energy requirements. Figure 10 shows the basic pictorial representation of Mode
1.
The analysis of this mode was done by using RETScreen, which has the database
of the temperature variation, wind speed and other regional parameters sourced from
NASA as shown in Fig. 11.
2.3.2 Replacing Existing Grid Electricity Consumption
for Corrugation Heating with LPG
About 60% of the total energy need of the industry is required to provide heat
to the corrugation roll. There are three electric corrugation heaters of 12 kW each
which accounts for 36 kW while the total capacity of the plant is 55 kW. Electricity is
