uses of water hyacinth for phytoremediation as well as composting of water hyacinth and its application. Effective treatment of wastewater is essential for public
health and sanitation, water reclamation, preventing environmental pollution and
protecting water resources from contaminants getting introduced into surface water
systems. The final chapter of this part has critically reviewed and summarized the
currently available literature regarding the worldwide occurrence, fate and transport
of perfluorooctane sulphonate (PFOS) in the environment. This study also discusses
the various advanced removal processes like physical adsorption, membrane filtration and redox processes and other conventional removal technologies available
for the sustainable remediation of PFOS. Literature gaps are identified and future
directions are suggested accordingly. The future challenges of such different
state-of-the-art techniques are discussed and provides readers with an overview of
cost-benefits of the available technologies for effective in-situ treatment of CECs.
