Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) for reducing the incident rate of dengue
fever by applying 3 M Plus. This term is used to indicate some activities, namely
cleaning water tank weekly, covering water tank, recycling used household equipment, and protecting them from mosquito attack. Ideally, the score of households with
Larvae Free Index (LFI) should be over 95% (Subdirektorat Pengendalian Arbovirus
2011), however, the existing LFI score in Kemijen is only 70–80% on average.
Furthermore, Dasa Wisma and Posyandu have an important role in flood events.
A public kitchen is established during emergencies through Dasa Wisma, distribute
basic drugs, and provide medical assistance needed to recover from flood-related
diseases is provided through Posyandu (Fig. 12.14). Even though key informants
focused on the practical values of Dasa Wisma and Posyandu, these practices also
seem to have other purposes regarding flooding. An example is education about
hygiene. Through Dasa Wisma, some of the female inhabitants claimed to learn about
cleaning after flooding and not to throw garbage into the river. Through Posyandu
some health cadres claimed also to learn about hygiene in order to prevent diseases.
